Lower back pain specialist, Exercise Referral Pilates teacher
I am a qualified level 3 pilates teacher, as well as an Exercise Referral specialist in Pilates. I teach group sessions, small groups and 121's. My strength is in understanding your spine and what your body needs to stay strong and pain free. I work with you, from regular pilates exercise sessions for all levels, through to working with clients who have specialist medical conditions. I am qualified to teach clients with the following conditions; Heart illness, Diabetes, Obesity, Stress & Anxiety and Auto Immune illnesses.
Each class will push your body and impress you in the way it can stretch and move. Using an element of mindfulness, these classes can help you focus on your own strength and ability in a calm environment.
I can put together a programme and work closely with you to create a balanced approach that suits you and your lifestyle.
Children's Pilates is a positive way to introduce your child to concentrated movement along with an element of mindfulness and body awareness. Building on core strength, children Pilates will increase co-ordination, concentration and improve posture.
Each Childs needs are individual, and these sessions are tailored to the strength and requirements of that child. They can be 121 sessions, or small group sessions. For more information regarding children's Pilates please get in touch.

WHO I AM
My name is Sandy Rayner and have been teaching Pilates for over 4 years now.
Having worked as a fashion designer with over 18 years experience, I lived a full and hectic lifestyle. Regular travel, long periods of sitting at my desk drawing, left me with long term back pain and repeated bouts of sciatica.
At the age of 24 I was diagnosed with scoliosis, not severe enough to need surgery, but enough to leave an impact on my daily life. My spine changed shaped and visually when I looked in the mirror, I could clearly see the change in my posture. Everything was effected, the way I walked, how I slept, how I sat. Left to its own devices, scoliosis can gradually worsen over time. Combine this with travel and a full time job, and very little time to consider my posture, I was heading for a lifetime of pain and a truly wonky spine.
Early on in my diagnosis I was sent to pilates classes, I was taught the fundamentals in daily flexibility and strengthening exercises. This was the start of a long journey, making pilates part of my every day life.
I learnt which exercises worked for my pain, I learnt which ones could, if performed correctly, could change the shape of my spine. Being taught by a variety of pilates teachers made me realise I wanted to learn more, so that I could teach myself. Thats when my true journey into the professional world of pilates began. I began my retraining as a Pilates Instructor. I followed on from this with my GP Exercise referral qualification so that I could teach people who had their own special conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease. Frustrated by my journey in seeking help and advice, this qualification enables me to teach clients who have come directly from their GP's
I was always determined to understand more of the spine, on a deeper level, to understand how to continue exercising with back pain and how I could reduce and manage painful days without relying on painkillers, therefore I decided to continue with a Level 4 Lower Back Pain qualification.
Me experience has not only come from my qualifications, but also from my own journey through back pain. As most people know, there are good and bad days, but I now know that on a bad day, with the right movements and exercise, I can turn this into a good pain free day.
